The A School

Creative tools for big feelings and confident next steps.

Some children feel everything deeply. The worry. The frustration. The tears that seem to come from nowhere. The shutdowns.

The moments when they want to explain what is happening, but the words will not come.

And as a parent, you can feel it too.

Created from real life

The A School was created from that place.

From raising a child with big feelings.

From seeing that children do not always need more pressure, more correction or more explanations.

They need space. They need language. They need tools they can actually use.

And they need to feel safe enough to understand what is happening inside.

What we believe

Big feelings are not the problem.

Big feelings are information. They tell us something is happening beneath the surface.

But when children do not have a way to understand those feelings, they can come out as tears, anger, silence, avoidance or overwhelm.

That does not mean something is wrong with them. It means they need a way to notice, name and move through what they feel.

Tools children can come back to

We create tools children can come back to.

The A School creates simple, creative resources that help children understand big feelings, build emotional awareness and take their next step with more self-trust.

Understand

Helping children make sense of big feelings without shame, pressure or labels.

Express

Using drawing, colour, prompts and creative resources to show what words cannot always explain.

Grow

Building confidence in small steps, especially before changes, transitions or new experiences.

Next step

Supporting children to move forward with more self-trust and practical tools they can use.

Start with The Big Feelings Project.

The Big Feelings Project is The A School’s creative emotional literacy pathway.

It uses art, reflection and simple tools to help children understand big feelings and take confident next steps.

The Big Feelings Toolkit is a gentle starting point for parents and children who need a simple way to pause, notice and make sense of what is happening.

Use it when your child:

  • feels overwhelmed
  • worries about change
  • shuts down or explodes
  • struggles to explain what is wrong
  • finds big emotions hard to manage
  • needs help taking one small next step
  • needs a creative way to express feelings

Some children understand themselves best through movement.

Mindset in Motion is The A School’s sport and basketball confidence pathway, working with Greater Manchester Basketball and Greater Manchester Titans to support confidence, emotional awareness, teamwork and brave next steps through movement and basketball.

It helps children and young people build the emotional tools that support participation, confidence and future development.

You do not need to have the perfect words.

When a child is in a big feeling, it can be hard to know where to begin.

Sometimes the first step is not a lecture. It is a question. A drawing. A pause. A tool.

A moment where your child realises: What I feel makes sense. And there is something I can do next.
